We are excited to announce that the Warkworth Re:Sort has launched several new initiatives to promote responsible recycling and waste reduction! From free commodity recycling, a second-hand shop and soft plastics collection to educational programs and green waste composting, we are committed to creating a more sustainable future for our community.
Here are just some of our great new initiatives for Warkworth:
FREE RECYCLING
Free Commodity Recycling
We proudly take all types of plastic, glass, cans, tin, cardboard and whiteware for FREE to help our local community to recycle more. We accept items 1, 2, and 5 plastics, and we’re committed to doing our part to reduce waste and create a more sustainable future.
Free Soft Plastics Recycling
We are proud to announce that Soft Plastics Recycling is now available at the Warkworth Re:Sort Resource Recovery Park! Thanks to the valuable feedback from the Warkworth Community, who said let's make this happen locally. This initiative is now FREE for everyone to use.
REPURPOSING INITATIVES
Re:Fuel your Woodwaste
Our new refuel scheme is working to reduce wood waste sent to landfills and repurpose it as a source of renewable energy. We have partnered with local businesses to provide wood waste bins/bags, which separate wood waste from the general waste stream. The wood is then chipped and processed to be used as a sustainable source of biofuel and in cement production, helping to reduce our carbon footprint and create a more sustainable future.
Second-Hand Shop - The Last Re:Sort
After our sorting team found a number of items too good to landfill, we decided to set up a brand-new second-hand shop at our Re:Sort, to give items destined for landfill another chance at a second life. To further give back to the community, we are donating a percentage of the shop proceeds to a local community group of the month, chosen by vote when you purchase any item at our 'last Re:Sort'. Pop in and see us today to grab yourself a second-hand bargain, support local community groups and promote less waste in landfills.
WASTE & RECYCLING EDUCATION
Community Education
Educating the next generation on all things waste and recycling can play a vital role in creating a sustainable future for our community. That’s why Northland Waste has an education day for local schools who wish to visit the Warkworth Resource Recovery Park to further their sustainability modules in the classroom. We are proud of this initiative and accept tour bookings currently. Contact our office for more information or to book a community education tour for your school.
