At Northland Waste's Warkworth Re:Sort transfer station on Sandspit Road, we're converting what was once considered waste into valuable resources for community good. Our innovative on-site secondhand shop, The Last Resort, is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and community support.
With many items too significant for existing charity shops, our team repurposed an old shipping container into a unique shopping experience. Positioned conveniently across the large drop-off shed, The Last Resort is an opportunity to reduce waste and support our community.
Our transfer station manager, Logan Gurney, emphasizes our ethos: collaboration, not competition with local op shops. All proceeds from The Last Resort are channelled to community causes, with customers selecting one of three charities each quarter to receive their contribution. In its inaugural three months, the shop proudly raised $5000, dividing $2500 each between vital organisations of Hestia Women’s Refuge and Parent Port.
Hestia Women's Refuge, located in Warkworth, offers a safe and confidential service for women and children experiencing family violence. They provide crisis intervention, safe housing, and support for women to lead violence-free lives.
Parent Port supports families with preschool children by reducing stress and isolation. They assist with household chores, provide respite for parents, and cover a wide area with their dedicated team, reducing family workloads and promoting well-being.
Our team, including Gurney and Debbie Baker, juggles the responsibilities of managing the shop and sorting duties. Debbie Baker's philosophy is simple yet profound: "If it's not good enough for your family, it's not good enough for ours." This standard ensures that our stock, ranging from bicycles to books, furniture to sporting goods, is always of the highest quality.
We invite you to visit The Last Resort, open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm at Re:Sort Warkworth, 183 Sandspit Road.
